Toolkit3d Scan app along with Structure SDK can be used to scan with compatible Apple iPhone and iPads models. When scanning with this solution the following guidelines should be considered.
- Make sure there's no covering over the iPhone camera, especially a privacy screen.
- The screen should be wiped down of residue before you scan, especially the camera portion of the screen.
- Scan from 20-25cm away for best results.
- When 'batching' scans, it's a good idea to let the iPhone rest for a minute or two between scans to allow the device to vent heat.
- If you see 'melting', as if the scan is rippling, that's a sign that the system is running low on memory, you can fix it by closing all apps and waiting a few minutes.
- Depth only tracking is the preferred tracking mode for foot scanning.
- 2.4-3mm is the preferred voxel density for TrueDepth Scanning, any lower and noise may be 'mapped' into the final mesh.
- Align to Gravity should be turned off when scanning with TrueDepth, this is because in almost all cases the foot will be scanned from an elevated position and align to gravity (Auto-Table Top) will try to lock the box to a flat surface.
- Turntable mode is effective for scanning objects that are rotating, consider this for customers who are moving their feet as you scan.
- Always scan holding the iPhone vertically, and try not to rotate the iPhone horizontally when scanning.
- When foot scanning, it is recommended to scan in a cross-T pattern - starting on the Plantar surface, scan up and down, then rotate the phone in a 'T' pattern around the foot until you come up on the top of the foot. This gentle rotation will keep tracking consistent and help the camera stay locked to target.
